Hello, I’m J.K.Winders!
J.K. stands for Joshua Kelly. I am a portrait, lifestyle, and adventure photographer. I have been taking photographs and growing in this craft since 2012. The blending of traditional lifestyle photography with the wonderment and joy of adventure, accompanied by rich tones and moody vibes, are what make up the unique aesthetic of my work. In all things, my aim is to explore and create to inspire.
I was born and raised in the great state of Georgia; a red head in a family of brunettes. Since then, I have coexisted in the bustling city of Los Angeles, California, the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, and several places in between. As my horizons have expanded over the past several years, so have my portfolio and skill sets. I travel a great deal and consider myself a collector of experiences.
In addition to photography, I am also an avid writer, musician, and overall artisan. I am enamored by the creative process and the business of creating something artistic for the purpose of saying something that has never been said before. I enjoy doing work that challenges me and my abilities, and takes me to places I’ve never been and allows me to see things I've never seen. I constantly draw inspiration from old, vintage styles and techniques to discover new places to take my art and creativity. At my very core, I'm just a young buck on a journey, unceasingly refining and establishing myself as an artist, an adventurer, and a young man. I am always eager and excited to connect, create, and explore.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN PHOTOGRAPHY?
A. I've always had access to a camera and have always known how to operate one. But I began seriously pursuing photography in 2012 while living in Los Angeles, California. In my early career, I developed myself as a street photography and portrait photographer before venturing out and traveling full time.
Q. Where are you currently based?
A. I am currently based out of the Colorado Springs area. However, I find myself constantly on the road between places more that half of the year. Feel free to reach out to me through my contact page to see if I'm rolling through your neck of the woods.
Q. What other artists have influenced you the most?
A. Growing up, my family had a lot of prints by Ansel Adams displayed all over our house. From a young age, I was enamored by the stark use of light and shade in his imagery of the natural beauty of America. I also find a lot inspiration in the works and documentations of photographers like Margaret Burke White, Dorothea Lange, and Steve McCurry.
